Make Your Own DIY Christmas Baubles

December 12, 2018

(address blanked out in photo for safety reasons)

This year we moved house and to celebrate our first Christmas in our new home, I wanted a special bauble on our Christmas tree. I looked on the likes of Etsy and saw the most beautiful baubles that have obviously had time and care taken over them, but I just couldn’t afford to spend £20 on a bauble. One that I really liked was clear with a personalised drawing of your front door inside. Which gave me an idea...why not make my own alternative version!

For this DIY you will need the following:

  • Clear fillable bauble(s) from places like Ebay (if you're using instax photos you will need 10cm baubles)

  • A small photo or instax print of your choice

  • Shredded tinsel (colour of your choice)

  • Permanent marker (my personal preference is metallic)

  • Your favourite ribbon

  1. Once you've chosen your photo, you can either leave it as it is, or write a short caption        underneath. Because I wanted mine to celebrate our new home, I wrote our address and the year underneath. Some other nice photo ideas could be an engagement, wedding, pet, or a loved one.

  2. Once you've done this, you need to carefully pull the cap off your bauble and set it aside. You then need to very carefully roll your photo into a tube so it will slide into the bauble. This bit is a little fiddly and you need to make sure the marker is fully dry first. When the photo pops in, it's very likely to be off centre and not at all in the place you want it. To solve this issue, push the end of your marker into the bauble and drag the photo into the desired position.

  3. Now slowly and carefully pull apart pieces of shredded tinsel and push into the bauble behind the photograph. Be careful not to disturb the position of the photograph, but if you do, just use the marker to reposition it again.

  4. Once you're satisfied with the amount of tinsel, carefully put the cap back on.

  5. We're nearly there now. To finish  your bauble of, cut a piece of your favourite ribbon and tie it through the cap loop. And that's it, you're done!

This DIY can also easily be changed up to recreate other looks that don't include photos. Instead you could fill your bauble with fake snow, pom-poms, sequins, glitter, or sprigs of fir or berries. The possibilities really are endless with this.

These make lovely presents for loved ones or just as a keepsake for yourself. Have fun if you do make your own - I'd love to see photos of the finished results!
